Mr. Wood has worked in community corrections since 1978. He has served in every capacity from line staff to Program Director. Since 1984 he has been the Chief Executive Officer of our correctional corporation and Chairman of the Board of Directors. His knowledge of legal, programmatic, and fiscal issues in community corrections has kept CMI on the forefront of our industry.
Jim Tanner, Ph.D., Vice President of Research & Planning
Dr. Tanner has over three decades of experience in applied community corrections. He has designed, implemented, administered, and evaluated numerous community corrections programs. His experience includes being a supervising probation officer, directing local government’s community corrections services, directing residential and detention facilities (both juvenile and adult), and conducting nationally recognized training and consultation. Dr. Tanner has served on the faculties of two universities teaching a wide range of criminal justice and social psychology courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level. He is the author of the cognitive restructuring program (Quick Skills) and the SSOTR sex offender management tool. Quick Skills is the foundation of CMI’s programming and has been adopted by several states, including Colorado, for use in their facilities and aftercare programs. The SSOTR is a mandatory tool in use within Colorado Judicial Districts and is utilized as an adjunct tool in numerous other states. Both Quick Skills and the SSOTR are in use internationally.
Shannon Carst, M.B.A., Vice President of Operations (email)
Since 1994, Ms. Carst has worked in
the criminal justice system to include every major aspect of
community corrections, therapeutic communities, in-prison
treatment and female services. Ms. Carst has a Bachelor’s
degree in Criminal Justice, Master’s degree in Business and is
certified by the State of Colorado as an Addictions Counselor.
Ms. Carst has previously held positions as Director and Deputy
Regional Director of operations that provided oversight for 25
programs across the country. She has played an
integrate role in leading seven Community Corrections programs
in achieving the honored American Correctional Association
Accreditation, each with a 100% score. Ms. Carst has
served on numerous committees’ including the Division of
Criminal Justice Standards Revision, Advisory Committees and
currently is the Chair of the Colorado Community Corrections
Coalition. Ms. Carst has direct oversight of day to
day operations, policy development, facility planning and
management, compliance monitoring and ensures evidence-based
principles are in practice.
Mike Koob, Senior Executive Director, Boulder County (email)
Mr. Koob has more than 20 years experience with
Correctional Management, Inc. He began in 1988 as a
Security Staff at the Longmont Community Transition Center, and
has held every position in that facility to include Case
Manager, Security Supervisor, Program Coordinator, Program
Director and Vice President of Operations. Mr. Koob is a
graduate of Mankato State University with a B.S. in Corrections
and a minor in Sociology
Ericka Gillespie, Executive Director, Denver County (email)
Ms. Gillespie has worked in community
corrections since 1998 with both male and female adult
offenders. She has specialized training with populations
that includes sex offenders, violent offenders, and mentally ill
offenders. Ms. Gillespie has been honored with several awards
for her contributions in community revitalization. Ms.
Gillespie plays an integral role in policy development,
compliance monitoring, and facility auditing. She holds a
Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science.
Vanessa Joseph, Executive Director, Boulder County (email)
Ms. Joseph began her career in Community Corrections in 2000 and has held several positions with CMI from Security Staff to her current position of Executive Director. She has worked in a variety of capacities within the community corrections field to include residential and non-residential programs. Her experience includes working with male and female offenders, violent offenders, sex offenders, Dual Diagnosis offenders, Division of Youth Corrections, County Work Release and the Boulder County Integrated Treatment Court. She is a member of the American Correctional Association as well as the International Community Corrections Association. Ms. Joseph received her degree in Sociology and minor in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado.
Chrystal Owin, Director, Training & Research (email)
Chrystal began her correctional career in 1994 and has worked with both juveniles and adults in pre-trial and residential environments. She has held several positions in community corrections and related organizations, up to and including Program Director. She maintains instructor certification in the Standardized Offender Assessments and CPR/First Aid. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from Colorado State University.
Anne Hauswald, Resource Specialist (email)
Ms. Hauswald has worked since 1973 in law enforcement as a Records Supervisor, Dispatcher and Secretary to the Chief of Police at the Boulder Police Department and as a Deputy Sheriff in the Jail Division at the Boulder County Sheriff’s Department. She left the Sheriff’s Department in 1990 as the Work Release supervisor to come to work for CMI as the Director of Non-Residential Services and has since been a Residential Program Director, Placement Director, Sr. Executive Director of Operations and other positions as needed. She was instrumental in the development of CMI’s Family Orientation sessions.
